European Commission (EC) –Call for Proposal in Sanitation (Deadline 31 January 2012)

The EC will allocate €14 million through the ACP-EU Water Facility for sanitation projects in urban and peri-urban areas of the ACP (African, Caribbean, and Pacific) Countries. The emphasis is ecological sanitation, community involvement, and approaches that combine sanitation with water management and renewable energy. The program is open to non-state actors and local authorities in EU member states, EU candidate countries, ACP countries, and other least-developed countries. Inter-governmental organizations are also eligible. The EU insists on strong partnerships with institutions in the countries where the projects will be implemented. Royal Bank of Canada -- Blue Water Project 2012 (Deadline February 3, 2012)

The RBC's Blue Water Project makes grants for watershed protection and safe drinking water in North America, the Caribbean, and UK. (i) The Community Action Grants are up to $5 thousand. Applications can be submitted all year by local and community organizations in Canada, USA, and the Caribbean. (ii) Leadership Grants ranging from $25 thousand to $500 thousand are available to local, regional, national, and trans-border organizations for projects anywhere where RBC is located -- including Canada, USA, the Caribbean, and the U.K. The application deadline for Leadership Grants is 03 February 2012. Australia's International Center for Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM) offers funding to attract high-quality international students for education and training in water resources management in Australia. ICE WaRM offers a variety of program options in partnership with four Australian universities. Applications for scholarship support can be submitted twice a year, with the next deadline on 24 February 2012. Link
Congo Basin Forest Partnership –Grants (Deadline March 1, 2012)

With funding through the European Commission, the Congo Basin Forest Partnership announces a call for proposals to strengthen 16 protected areas and their peripheries in Central Africa. The program works through the Central Africa Protected Areas Network (RAPAC) to make grants for conservation in high-priority protected areas in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, DRC, Gabon, and Sao Tome & Principe. Applications are invited from national and international NGOs, as well as from private actors for nonprofit activities, in countries of the EU and ACP (i.e., all countries in RAPAC). The maximum grant is €200 thousand. The closing date for applications is 01 March 2012. Link
Leverhulme - Royal Society Africa Awards 2012 (Deadline February 8, 2012)

The Leverhulme Trust and the UK's Royal Society collaborate to make grants for research in agriculture, water and sanitation, biodiversity, energy, and basic human health in Tanzania and Ghana. Applicants from these countries partner with institutions in the U.K. Project leaders must have at least post-doctoral status or equivalent. Awards offer a maximum of £60 thousand per year for three years. The closing date for applications is 08 February 2012. Link
U.S. Agency for International Development -- Development Innovation Ventures 2012 (Deadline April 15, 2012)

USAID's Office of Innovation and Development Alliances administers the program "Development Innovation Ventures" (DIV). Grants in DIV identify, develop, test, and up-scale innovative approaches for development. Past projects include examples of innovations in solar electricity, chemical fuel cells, and micro finance for farmers. DIV accepts applications from nonprofit and for-profit organizations in the USA and worldwide, often in partnerships. Grants are up to US$100 thousand for projects in the concept stage; US$1 million for the testing phase; and US$15 million for the scale-up phase.
