This workshop is designed for people interested in learning how to become an effective facilitator in order to facilitate the delivery of CAWST workshops to others. The goal of this workshop is to develop the necessary skills and techniques to be an effective facilitator. Topics include how people learn, the role of the facilitator, and tools and techniques for designing and facilitating participatory lessons. Additional topics such as assessment and evaluation, cross-cultural facilitation, conflict resolution, and working with a facilitation team will also be explored. The workshop will incorporate various CAWST training materials into the training sessions.

Content

• Theory: Understanding the audience; Learning styles; Lecture versus participatory style; Cross-cultural and cross-language communication; and The role and effective skills of the facilitator.
• Practical: How to meet the needs of the participants; How to communicate effectively; How to integrate hands on activities; How to design lessons and teach content using different instructional tools; and How to handle group dynamics.
• Implementation: Planning a lesson within a structured workshop; How to work as a facilitation team; The logistics and administration of planning a workshop; Preparing the logistics for a lesson; Assessing learning through self-assessments and peer feedback; Evaluations of workshop structure and learning.

The cost of this 4 day workshop held in Calgary is $ 500 CDN.

This covers all materials, handouts, instructions and food for the first day.

Any other costs such as accommodation and food is not covered.

To confirm your registration a non-refundable advance of $125 CDN needs to be paid at least 2 weeks prior to the first day of the workshop. CAWST reserves the right to cancel the workshop up to 2 weeks prior to the event - your advance ($125) will be reimbursed if this occurs. The remainder of the cost must be paid by the first day of the workshop.

The full amount of $500 can also be paid upfront in one transaction and will be fully reimbursed in the case where CAWST would cancel.
